A Message from our ELCC Supervisor
At Tuscany, we have an open-door policy between children, families, and staff. Program planning is crafted so that our students are always engaged in fun and learning activities taken from their interests. We ensure the environment is inclusive for age and developmental levels, while still challenging their growth mindset. The children explore areas of Math, Art, and Science (exploring the state of matter - solid, liquid, and gaseous through the water cycle as well as the animal kingdom). Sensory activities such as making magnetic slime, salt dough, etc. Technology activities include engineer challenges utilizing Minecraft or Lego WeDo, and creating music with MakeyMakey. Weather permitting, play outside every day so children can explore nature and play outdoor games. The best part is whatever children do, they enjoy and have fun with, brightening our staff's day.

Meet our Tuscany Staff!
Hello! My name is Priya, and I am a graduate from Sheridan College from Ontario! I have completed my studies in Early Childhood Education. I have over three years of experience working with children in the field. I am also a tutor, which is something I have been doing for over 6 years. Being recently married and moving from Toronto to Calgary has been a great challenge, but I am open to new opportunities and embrace them with open arms. As an educator and now the Supervisor here at Tuscany- Coded Minds, I want to ensure the well being of all children in the program, give them the love and support they need and provide the children with a variety of materials which will help them enhance their knowledge and grow as individuals. I enjoy my time working with children, providing them with an environment which they feel safe and comfortable in. My passion for working with children grows day by day and I believe that every day is a new learning experience.
Hi, I am Sara Calesso and I am currently in my third year at Mount Royal University in the Bachelor of Child Studies majoring in Early Learning and Child Care. I currently am a Child Development Worker, and I have four years of experience with children of all ages. This is my second year with school age children in a before and after school program, and my second year with Coded Minds. Having the opportunity to work for Coded Minds has allowed me to fulfill one of my biggest passions in my career which is allowing children to learn new concepts through fun activities. I believe children are motivated to learn new concepts if it is done in a fun and engaging way, especially if they are allowed to get their hands dirty. Through play, we are able to see children’s interests and watch them grow emotionally, physically, and most importantly intellectually. I cannot wait to meet all the new families entering the program and see the returning families, and to create fun and engaging activities.

In my view, it is in all of us to raise compassion and understanding in the community. My uniquely personal and explorative work history highlights my creative personality and adventurous spirit that has allowed me to work in various parts of the world. My passion for learning enabled me to pursue an Applied Communication Degree, Electronic Publishing major, and Level One Early Childhood Education certification. I am in the process of finalizing the coursework needed to complete my Master's diploma in Art Therapy via the Vancouver Art Therapy Institute. In my view, art has the power to help one express and understand themselves. My long-term career objective is to use creativity as a therapeutic tool to enhance the emotional intelligence of the next generation. So, who is Christy Herdman? I am a ... I have extensive teaching experience of over 30 years. I started by teaching young children and ended up teaching high school students from different nationalities and leading the department in different international schools in Abu Dhabi- United Arab Emirates. Locally, I have taught in different weekend schools in Calgary. That is added to my specialized teaching qualification (bachelor’s degree) from a well-known Egyptian university. I have also developed, launched and ran Airdrie week-end School as the principal and the main teacher for the last two years, unfortunately the school was closed due to COVID restrictions. I believe that the combination of my qualifications plus my experience, in addition to my other skills, hobbies and my positive personality will help towards the success of any program and school. My goal as an educator is to enrich children’s knowledge, practices, their critical thinking and guide them towards being good members in their communities.
My name is Samantha, and I have been in Child Care for 15 yrs. I enjoy working with children and giving them new experiences, by getting messy and making mistakes. Building trust, confidence, and relationships with the children I work with is important to me. Our company uses the interest of the children to help with our planning. Having the children being able to tell me what they would like to see and do in the program helps to keep them engaged. In my years I have learned many things from the children, I have gained patience, insight into how they think and different activities and strategies to have the children learn new skills.
